The DOET initiative started within the Kingdom over 13 years ago, firstly in the Netherlands, with the Dutch Caribbean islands joining in shortly thereafter. Today there is NLdoet (The Netherlands), ARUBA DOET (Aruba), BON DOET (Bonaire), CURA DOET (Curaçao), STATIA DOET (St. Eustatius) and SXM DOET (Sint Maarten). These initiatives highlight volunteering as well as volunteers themselves, while encouraging every one to roll up their sleeves for (part of) a day, giving everyone a fulfilling and gratifying feeling of a day well spent, ensuring that community serving organizations get the help they need and deserve.
As the Daily Herald put it, after this year’s review session by all of those who organize a “DOET” session in their countries:
“As hosts, many thanks go out to Simpson Bay Resort, Buccaneer Beach Bar, Avantika, La Patrona, the Sister Regina School PTA, Engage Foundation, EPIC [Environmental Protection in the Caribbean – Ed.], and Seaside Nature Park/Intervision Foundation for helping make this meeting a success. Next year’s SXM DOET will take place on March 8 and 9,”
